Viva Chavez

Chavez is spending $1.5 billion in Bolivia to prop up his own poodle the Bolivian President in front of his people and show that not all investers are running away from Bolivia (just the ones interested in making money). Good for Bolivia, shitty for venezuelans. That's your money guys, and he is wasting it. And guess what? You voted for him. At least Nasser had a coup.

sigh…

Many governments far worse than that of Morals have been on the payroll of USA. At least many things that Morals is doing have the support of the majority of the Bolivian people not like others, e.g., Mubarak. So investing a 1.5 billion dollars in Bolivia’s shaky economy is far more defensible than trashing 2 billion dollars annually to reinforce Mubaraks despotic and criminal regime, Or the 1 billion dollar spent fruitlessly each year to stable the eternally unstable Colombia.

Hey. We all have to learn the hard way. The Bolivians have had to deal with lots of self-interested conservative politicians from Bolivia’s white upper-crust over the years. I suppose it is natural from for them to have somewhat romantic feelings about one of their own coming to power. Let them go through the process. Once Morales turns out to be less than a ‘gift from God’ for Bolivia the Bolivian people will take a less romantic approach to governance and dump Morales and his ilk, and try and refocus on leaders that can give them concrete results.

I say, give it a few years, let them learn their lesson.

Seems the oil-lobby is in control of the darling.

I disagre with nationalization withiut compensation,

The fact that oil companies raped oil producing nations is history. We all live with deals we’ve made in the past. Try US$300 for a 300M hard drive! Sounds ridicu8lous now but at the time it was a sweet deal.

However, no one should be able to abduct assets without being responsible for, at the very least, repayment of a portion of the assests seized. To do so is criminal at best and worst. C’mon Hugo ….. being popular, short sighted, and irresponsible, all at the same time, is a shity way to run a country.

You may wish to walk in Che’s footsteps, you wil never fill Che’s shoes.

  5. K-2 Says:

SM, thank you for rubbing our noses in the fact we elected him… twice!. There they go hospitals, education and quality of file for my people…

Amgad, it’s true than many countries are in the payroll of USA, which is, BTW, a developed nation with a lot of money, far from Venezuela, which every year becomes poorer and poorer (yes, in spite of the petroleum prices).

Moose, you are sooo right with everything you said, except with the Che’s stuff: Chavez still needs to participate, direct or inderectly in the killing of at least 400 people to be like the Che.

  6. Tim Says:

Can we make Chavez a U.S. citizen and run him for president? At least he’s spending money to improve the lives of his people, and creating a middle class for Venezuela. The U.S. is going in the opposite direction.

  7. Benjamin Says:

    Tim,

I do not know where you get your information.
Creating a middle class for Venezuela?
I recommend you talk to any Venezuelan in that Middle Class so they can tell you exactly what he is doing to them.

I have a good friend who has since fled Venezuela, and I can assure you this nutcase is far from strengthening the Middle Class.

You are myopic my friend - Chavez wants to create his own version of an authoritarian Cuba - except with oil.

Sure, he is “helping” the poor by giving them properties - which he is expropriating from the same middle and upper class you claim he is bolstering. The problem is that he is not doing anything to help the poor to whom he is giving properties to improve their own financial situation, so in the end tjose properties will become decrepit because they will not be maintained.

If you like Hugo so much, this proud naturalized American citizen will be happy to buy you a one way ticket to Caracas.
